About Hallie

Hello, my name is Hallie Swan, LCPC and I am a marriage and family therapist with a psychospiritual counseling practice in Red Lodge, MT and online via telehealth. I provide counseling and psychotherapy sessions for individuals and couples throughout the state of Montana via Telehealth. I work at the intersection of helping people overcome trauma, and helping them expand in to the vastness of their spiritual potential. As a result of trauma (overt or subtle, isolated or ongoing,) we can become mired in limiting and repetitive belief systems and dysfunctional behavior. This keeps us stuck in a very small sense of ourselves and the world. I help people deconstruct these narratives and, as they are ready, step in to the possibilities that await them beyond the broken record of their disempowered beliefs about themselves.

As for myself, I have always felt that there was deeper meaning beyond the physical realm. I grew up in a very materialistic community that did not reflect this, and this launched me in to a lot of tension and addictive behavior at a young age. I was blessed to come in to contact with a spiritual path around the age of 20 that validated the energy and intensity that I felt inside. It was the only thing that was real enough to “meet me.” I strive to offer the same to my clients: a sanctuary that welcomes all of their anger, pain, fear, love, excitement, and vitality… a place where they feel safe to experience the whole breadth and spectrum of who they are. Many people have never had the experience of being able to show all of themselves to another person. I believe being seen and held non-judgmentally and with care for who we are is one of the most powerful and healing experiences available, and this is a big part of my offering.

My work is grounded in somatic approaches to trauma therapy and my experience in sexual violence crisis response. I draw from indigenous wisdom that stewards of various traditions have been gracious enough to share with me, my continued practice of meditation, energy medicine, and metaphysics. My work is also influenced by my years of work as a mentor for transition-aged youth, which incorporated collectivist approaches to resourcing, restorative justice, and initiatory rites of passage. My work is invariably feminist, social and earth justice-oriented, and Earth-honoring.

In 2017 I received my Master’s degree in Integral Counseling psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and completed my traineeship at Pierce Street Integral Counseling Center. Today I work as Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate in Red Lodge, MT. I welcome people of all demographics and orientations.

My specializations include:

  • Sexual trauma, and helping people transition from sexual trauma to sexual vibrancy

  • Integrating nonordinary or expanded states of consciousness

  • Helping people uncover and step in to their soul's calling

  • Paranormal psychology

  • PTSD

  • Anxiety

  • Body image issues

  • Self-criticism and self-esteem issues

  • Navigating relationships

  • Addictive behaviors

  • Support around chronic illness

How To Find The Right Therapist For You In Bozeman Montana

It can feel overwhelming when you decide to work with a therapist. Our modern world makes finding a therapist online somewhat easier, but there are so many qualified therapists to choose from. Many people begin their therapy search using a popular website called Psychology Today because there are many search options, which makes the process somewhat more streamlined, but still challenging. You may want a counselor with certain skills or life-experience, or gender, race or religion may also play a role for you. When searching for a counselor or psychologist in Montana, it’s important to find someone who not only has the skills, experience and training to help you with your concerns, but someone with whom you feel comfortable—therapists call this a “good fit.” Finding the right therapist for you is the most important aspect of effective therapy and healing, as healing tends to happen in the context of supportive and corrective relationships. If you have been referred by a friend, colleague or physician, we will consider this as well. If we do not feel like we are a good fit for you, we will always make a referral with other experienced counselors within the community.

After you reach out, you will be sent electronic versions of our intake paperwork, which includes confidentiality, policy and insurance information to be completed prior to your first session. If you will be conducting sessions virtually or online, you will be sent a link prior to your session time. When working virtually, we use a HIPPA-compliant video conferencing platform called SimplePractice, which we think is easy and convenient to use. Early sessions will be an opportunity to get to know you better and to clarify your counseling goals. Typically sessions are weekly as this gives you the opportunity to develop a relationship with your therapist. Sometimes, if you are experiencing a personal or professional crisis, you may need to meet more frequently. Experience tells us that therapy is most effective when it is weekly and consistent. As treatment goals are met, you will have the opportunity to reevaluate your ongoing counseling needs.
